![]() ![]() The racetrack facility opened in 1997 in New Kent, Virginia and conducts pari-mutuel wagering on thoroughbred and harness racing. The expansive facility includes an outside grandstand/box seating area, outdoor ground level bench seating, a large trackside picnic area with 2 corporate picnic/party tents and 200 umbrella tables, two simulcast amphitheaters, two cocktail bars, a food court, gift shop and numerous manned and self serve betting stations. The air conditioned third floor Jockey Club Dining Room has table seating for 500 and two cocktail lounges, while the fourth floor Turf Club has full service dining for 125, along with a cocktail lounge, ten luxury Sky Suites and a ballroom where special events are held. Colonial Downs is best known for its Secretariat Turf Course which at 180 feet wide, is the largest grass course in the country. The $600,000 Virginia Derby (Gr. II), generally held the third Saturday in July, is Colonial's annual marquee event. Colonial Downs also has 10 Off Track Betting Centers in addition to a growing network of restaurants and private clubs that have EZ Horseplay wagering stations.
